tutorial tuesday: blanket stitch

this is one of my FAVORITE crafty techniques. you can literally use it to finish any raw edge and/or sew 2 pieces of fabric together. futuregirl has a great step-by-step tutorial here.

here's some cute ideas i found:

a cassette tape cell phone cover!

or...a hair clip by yours truly.

it may take a little while to get the hang of it, but once you do you'll be using it to edge everything!

thanks to all those who participated in the buy 3 get 1 free sale at jellabee jr! it was busy, but so fun to ship off those free clippies to people! i think i might do another week-long sale the first week of november or something...like an early christmas sale.

other than that...i wish i was still in bed.

(source)

it's my fault. i stayed up waaaay too late last night making clips and watching "a league of their own" and "center stage". the first one is one of my allll time favorite movies, i think i have it memorized. plus, 40's clothing and red matte lipstick makes me die. and the second one?...loud and entertaining enough to keep me awake.

i was reading one of my favorite blogs, once wed, today and had to repost this darling picture. sockmonkey caketoppers!?! are you kidding me?!! and the lacey, ruffly dress on the bride?! ugh, i die from the cuteness.

if you haven't seen their blog, i highly recommend it. they're a wedding blog through and through, but all the design elements from the weddings they post are amaaazing.
so i got really excited about doing some cross stitching again, and bought this pattern from the all stitches shop on etsy!i've seen this print everywhere on design blogs and such and thought it would be such fitting wall decor for a household. i am so excited to stitch this baby! now all i gotta do is buy some cross stitch fabric and a large enough hoop. and i was thinking of using a different color floss than black...maybe teal or something. and i would love to put it in a vintage frame or something...i will definitely share pictures when i'm done.

(and if you aren't familiar with the background behind the print, check it out here.)

(p.s. i kinda wanna go back and purchase this pattern as well. i think it would look pretty cute in my baby girl's room. like maybe 3 in a row with different colors.)

i would love to do some cross stitching again.

i learned how in a needlecraft class i took in junior high and it's surprisingly simple. it's just a bunch of X's on a special needlepoint fabric that has a bunch of holes in it and you just carefully copy a pattern with embroidery thread.

if you look at the pattern above, each color stitch has a different symbol so that you don't get lost. the key is just to start on the outside, and work your way in, counting the squares in each row.

if you're looking to start, there's free patterns everywhere online (like the one i found above) and i would start with something small. i would love to make some christmas ornaments like the pair below for our tree this year:

there's all sorts of way to display them, too. the lady above made them into little pillows but you could simply frame it in the hoop you used to make it, like this cute little owl:
(as you can see, there's plenty of other stitches you can do besides X's...i'm in love with this owl!!)

or put it in a picture frame like this birdie:

here's a close-up so you can see all the tiny X's, i love the blend of colors sooo pretty!

the options are limitless!

new business cards

i kind of dithered for a long time over getting them printed through a business card place and possibly hiring someone to design little logos or something...but i'm actually really happy with how they turned out, just simple and clean.

i printed them with my little canon printer on the same cardstock as the jellabee jr hairclip mounts, and i clipped the corners with a little scrapbooking tool that makes rounded corners on pictures or whatever. the rounded corners are my favorite part, i've been wanting some business cards with rounded corners for FOREVER. i know, pretty lame thing to want but i love it.

and it really didn't take that long to do them myself, probably 5 minutes to print, flip over and print the back, cut, and clip 10 cards, not too bad. and a whole heckuva lot cheaper than paying $60 for a 100 cards that i'd have to wait 2 weeks to get...yay for new business cards!
